The Sox show plenty of pep
as the Mackmen make it difficult
September 6, 1916 ...
The fans were silent as Dutch Leonard dominated the Athletics pinning a 5-2 trimming on the youngsters, in spite of the great effort Connie Mack's boys put up. Dutch held the A's to seven scattered hits, striking out six and fielding his position
without flaw. He seemed to be taking it easy, tightening up when a man reached base.
The Sox reached Tom Sheehan for eight hits. He was generally very wild but smacked a triple to help himself. The Sox showed a lot of life, hitting well in the pinch and executed a fine squeeze play, with Duffy Lewis coming in from third base in the
ninth inning. Carrigan played Jimmy Walsh in center field, as Tilly Walker has been dealing with stiffness in his neck. Everett Scott has been the best hitter on the team since the start of the road trip. |
