Athletics shutout the Red Sox in an exhibition game

October 5, 1916 ... The biggest crowd ever assembled at Boulevard Park Ball Grounds in Worcester, numbering more than 6000, saw the Athletics shut out the Red Sox by a 3 to 0 score.  The game was staged to benefit the John H. Gaffney Monument Fund, arranged by Connie Mack and a committee of Worcester baseball enthusiasts.

Buck Thrasher's home run over the right field fence in the sixth inning was the highlight,  In the eighth Amos Strunk sent Roy Grover and Thrasher over the plate to account for the other two runs.
