WHITEY PLATT |
THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 2 ...
A POWERFUL RED SOX TEAM FAILS
IN THE WORLD SERIES ...
The Sox lose their second game in a row
June 14, 1946 ... Whitey Platt drove across six runs and crowned his perfect night with a three run homer that broke a 5-5 deadlock in the
seventh inning and handed Earl Johnson his first loss of the season at Comiskey Park. A 440 foot triple by Ted Williams sparked the Red Sox in the first inning to a 4-0 lead that starter Mickey Harris couldn't hold.
After Platt led his side to tie up the game 4 to 4, Ted thumped his 15th homer to put the Sox ahead 5 to 4. Tonight's defeat marked only the third time this season that the Red Sox have lost two games in a row.
Johnny Pesky's single in the sixth inning was his first hit in 18 at-bats. |
