BOSTON RED SOX ...
THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 3
A
SUBWAY SERIES DISAPPEARS ...

May 17, 1948 ... No game scheduled ... The Red Sox officials and writers arrived in Detroit at 6PM after taking off from Logan Airport at 2:30 PM.  The players were met by a bus at the Willow Run Airport and taken to their hotel.

Catcher Matt Batts was the only player not making the trip. Batts, who had harrowing experiences in the war, decided to take the train instead.
