"A YEAR WITH TWO NO-HITTERS" ...
Frank Malzone leads the Sox in a come-back win

June 6, 1962 ... With one down in the ninth-inning, Frank Malzone hit a home run to give the Red Sox a 2 to 1 victory behind Bill Monbouquette. But in the second game a squeeze bunt gave the Detroit Tigers a 3 to 2 victory and a split of the doubleheader.

Monbouquette went the distance yielding eight hits. Against him, Tigers pitcher Phil Regan, when all the way until Malzone broke up the game with his home run into the net. Both pitchers waged a scoreless duel until the seventh inning. Then Dick Brown barely cleared the left-field fence for a home run, giving the Tigers a 1 to 0 lead.

A few minutes later Bob Tillman tied the score at one all by blasting a homer over the netting and landing on Lansdowne Street in the seventh inning.

In the next inning, Charlie Maxwell it what looked like it could be a home run. But out in right field Caroll Hardy, with a well-timed leap, caught the ball with one hand.
