BLEEPIN' BUCKY DENT'S HOME RUN ...
The Sox win in 13 innings

August 10, 1978 ... Rick Burleson singled home pinch runner, Garry Hancock, to finish a two-run rally in the bottom of the 13th inning, lifting the Red Sox past the Cleveland Indians, 6 to 5. However, the Sox tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Thornton dropped a pop fly, allowing Hobson to get to first. Hobson continued to third and scored when catcher, Bo Diaz, threw the ball into left field.

The Indians opened the scoring when Bernie Carbo singled, advanced to third on a wild throw from Hobson, and scored on Duane Kuiper's sacrifice fly. The Sox tied the score in the fourth, when Dwight Evans walked and was doubled home by Hobson. Jim Norris' two-run homer in the sixth inning chased Dennis Eckersley and gave Cleveland a 4-1 lead. The Sox, got two runs in the sixth inning when Fred Lynn scored Carl Yastrzemski in front of him, with his 19th homer, to make the score 4-3. Jim Rice tied the game, 4-to-4 in the seventh inning with a triple that scored Jerry Remy, who had bunted his was on to first base.

The Indians left 16 runners on base while the Sox stranded 12. Bob Stanley (8-1) picked up the win.
