Dick Drago pitched 4 2/3 innings of one hit relief as
the Red Sox downed the Tigers, 5 to 4, on Carlton Fisk's leadoff
homer in the 11th inning, off Aurelio Lopez.
Drago struck out
three and walked nobody during his stint. He relieved Skip Lockwood
in the seventh inning after the Tigers had tied the game at 4-4, when
Champ Summers single scored Steve Kemp.
The Tigers took a 3-0 lead off Mike Torrez on an RBI single by Lance
Parrish in the second inning, and added two more runs in the fourth
inning, on a double by Parrish and an error by Rick Burleson.
The Sox made the score, 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Carl
Yastrzemski tripled and came in on an infield out by Tony Perez. They
then took a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning when Jim Rice got a base
hit, Yaz walked and Perez hit a grounder that was mishandled by
Richie Hebner at third. That allowed Rice to score and Yaz to advance
to third. Butch Hobson's double into the left field corner scored
both Yaz and Perez. |
