MIKE FOLTYNEWICZ |
THE BEST RED SOX TEAM EVAH! ...
Foltynewicz takes a no-hitter into the sixth
and quiets the Sox
May 27,
2018 ... The Atlanta
Braves beat the Red
Sox 7-1. Mike Foltynewicz took a no-hit bid
into the sixth and went seven innings. Tyler
Flowers hit a three-run homer off Red Sox
ace Chris
Sale (5-2), salvaging the finale of a
three-game interleague series. Foltynewicz (4-3) gave up one run on three hits, striking out seven and
walking three. Sale (5-2) was tagged for six runs in 4 1/3 innings. He hadn’t
allowed more than three in all 11 of his previous starts this season.
Flowers’ homer made it 3-0 in the second. It was his second homer in his
third career at-bat against Sale. The Braves chased Sale with three runs in the
fifth. Freddie
Freeman, the last batter he faced, had a two-run
double.
Alex Cora originally had
Dustin Pedroia out
of the lineup, but inserted him in the cleanup spot and at second when Betts was
scratched. Pedroia was hitless in three at-bats and is 0 for 7 this year.
Braves second baseman Ozzie
Albies made a leaping grab of Xander
Bogaerts‘ hard liner in the sixth, getting it barely at
the top of his glove while at full extension.
Wade Boggs was one of 27
former Red Sox players who returned to Fenway, to compete in the team's first
Alumni Game since 1993. Team Tiant, managed by Luis Tiant, defeated Dwight
Evans' Team Dewey, 2-0, holding the team hitless. Pedro Martinez was the last of
the alumni to be introduced, and he was awarded the loudest applause.
Julio Lugo stepped up to
bat in what he said was his first time playing baseball since retirement. But
Lugo was not entirely out of practice thanks to the a softball league he plays
in and it showed. He whacked a Martinez fastball for a two-run home run that
sailed over the Green Monster, giving Team Tiant a lead it would not relinquish.
Bill Lee made an appearance
on the mound in the second inning, when he allowed two singles against batters
who were later erased in a double play.
