JIM COLCLOUGH   E

Jim Colclough was an original member of the Boston Patriots from 1960 through the 1968 season.

He was born on March 31, 1936 in Medford, Mass, and attended Quincy High School. After high school he played football for Boston College where he was their leading pass receiver for two seasons.

He was selected in the 30th round of the 1959 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, but elected to play defensive back with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League. In 1960 he went on to play receiver in the newly formed American Football League with the Boston Patriots.

In his nine year career as an end with the Patriots, he caught 283 passes for 5001 yards and 39 touchdowns. The 5001 yards was a team record until it was broken by Stanley Morgan broke it in 1983. He was selected to the AFL All Star team in 1962, when he led the AFL with 21.7 yards per reception. After the 1965 he was traded to the New York Jets but was re-acquired before the start of the 1966 season.

In the late 1960s he partnered with Derek Sanderson and Joe Namath as owners of the "Bachelors III" restaurant in Boston.

He was selected the Patriots All-Decade 1960s team and elected to the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1991.

Jim Colclough was 68 years old and lived in Brewster, when he passed away from complications from Hepatitis C on May 16, 2004 in Boston.
