Pinky Woods was advanced to Louisville (Class AA, American Association) for the 1943 season, and he got off to a good start. The Red Sox needed pitching help and liked what they had heard from Colonels manager Bill Burwell, so they brought up Pinky shortly afterward. Joe Cronin as seeing Woods headed for a good career.
