FOOTBALL AT FENWAY
Mickey Connolly and Mike Holovak lead the Eagles past Clemson

October 10, 1942 ... The Eagles took on the Clemson Tigers and outlasted them in a 14-7 uphill fight.  Clemson opened up by unfolding a tricky aerial attack.  It started when Charlie Wright picked off a Mickey Connolly pass at the B.C. 40 and ran it to the 30 -yd line.  From there Butch Butler paced the Southerners to a scoring drive with his accurate passes out in the flat.  Butler just stood like a rock amidst great blocking, picked his spots and fired.  He culminated the scoring drive by slicing off tackle from the four to go over standing up.

MIKE HOLOVAK AROUND LEFT END

The Eagles, led by Mike Holovak, dominated play for the rest of the half, but although they threatened on many occasions, the first half still concluded with Clemson holding the 7-0 lead.  Halfway through the third period, the Clemson passing attack began to click again.  Holovak fumbled on the third play after the second half kickoff and Clemson took over at the B.C. 39-yard line.  In a twinkling, they were down to B.C.'s 18.  When the outlook was very dreary, Mickey Connolly rose up and picked off one of Butler's passes intended for Chip Clark, and outran a half dozen defenders some 85 yards to put the Eagles back in the game.  This sparked the Eagles to go on and take the game over.  Two B.C. drives 67 yards and 58 yards got stalled. The scoring of the winning points started after a recovered fumble.  Joe Repko and Vic Palladino knocked the ball away from Clemson's Felix Marbury at their 23-yard line.  Holovak charged and churned most of the distance himself.  He battled his way down to the six  and put up the game winner with five minutes left to play.

The Clemson running attack proved to be no match for the Boston College defenders.  In fact the final statistics showed the Tiger ground offense lost 26 yards by game's end.  The Eagles had many terrifying experiences and almost lost their shirts to the quick and smaller team who tore around like an express train all day and tackled like they were mad at the world.
