DON CURRIVAN'S TOUCHDOWN CATCH

FOOTBALL AT FENWAY
B.C. knocks out the
Deacons on four long
drives

October 24, 1942 ... The Eagles and Coach Denny Myers made it four in a row when they beat the scrappy Deacons from Wake Forest 27-0 at Fenway Park.  Mickey Connolly was the big gun in this scrap with his incredibly great passing.  B.C. scored in the first quarter on a well executed 61 yard, seven play drive, with Connolly running around end for 20 yards.  Then Mike Holovak took a lateral and swung around the opposite side, getting shoved out-of-bounds at the 1-yard line.  Holovak then smashed through on the next play for the score.

The Deacons dominated play for the rest of the half but couldn't score.  The made it to the 36-yardline, 24-yard line, 20 and 16. Connolly then took complete charge in the third period.  Connolly put a pass over the shoulder of Don Currivan on a  30 yard toss into the end zone for the Eagles' second score culminating a 73 yard drive.  A few moments later Connolly hit Charlie Furbush with a 56 yard bomb for another touchdown.  Furbush caught it on the run at the 26-yard line and coasted into the end zone. to make it 20-0.  The last touchdown drive started under direction of Wally Boudreau.  He took the second teamers 83 yards in five plays.  Freshman scat back Bernie Lanoue reeled off 59 yards on a run up the middle.  Bill Boyce then hit Ed Florentino for the last score ion a 13 yard fingertip catch.

In these drives the Eagles piled up 300 yards of offense. They threw five passes in the game, three of which were for touchdowns.  Mike Holovak gained 76 yards on 11 carries bringing his total in four games to 432 yards.  Wake Forest's Johnny Cochran was more than a thorn in the Eagles' side.  He did everything but score.  He returned Canale's kickoff 50 yards, returned one of Connolly's punts for thirty and another for 20 yards.  In the four games the B.C. defense has only allowed a total of 103 yards rushing.
