“FOOTBALL AT FENWAY”

FOOTBALL AT FENWAY
Boston College wallops Florida 33-0

October 29, 1938 ... Boston College won a deceptive victory over the University of Florida at Fenway Park.  The game was not as lopsided as the score would suggest, for 20 of the Eagles points were scored in the last seven minutes of play.  Not only did the Eagles fail to cash in during the first half, but their own goal line was in jeopardy at the very end of the half.  Sophomore quarterback, Charlie O'Rourke was not inserted until the last two plays of the first half, but he started the second half and flipped passes for two touchdowns before he left the game.

AL HORSFALL

The first was a 42 yard scoring march early in the second half.  It was Pete Cignetti who hammered the Florida line to bring the ball down into scoring position at the 19-yd line.  Cignetti went up the middle again and the O'Rourke raced over left tackle down to the 6-yd line.  O'Rourke got the ball again and this time hit Harrison in the end zone for a score. Now the game started to look like a rout. With Cignetti, Al Horsfall and Ed Cowhig hammering the line, the Eagles marched 28 yards to the Florida 27-yd line.  Then on third down, O'Rourke hit Harrison in the back of the end zone for the second touchdown.

With seven minutes to play, Ralph Worth intercepted a Gator pass and ran 32 yards for a touchdown.  Next time they got the ball back, the Eagles moved from their own 14-yd line and marched 88 yards.  From his own 47-yd line, Fella Gintoff whipped a 42-yard pass to Al Horsfall in the flat, who was brought down on the 9-yard line.  Then Gintoff threw a scoring pas to sophomore Alex Lukachik.  Finally, with only thirty seconds left to play, Joe Zabilski intercepted another Florida pass on their 48-yd line and ran unmolested for the final touchdown.
