FOOTBALL AT FENWAY
Charlie O'Rourke leads B.C. to Indiana shutout

November 5, 1938 ... Sophomore sensation Charlie O'Rourke once again assumed the role of commanding the undefeated Eagles by running and passing them to a second period touchdown, the highlight of their 14-0 victory over Indiana at Fenway Park.  The crowd attracted by the fact that Boston College was playing their first "Big Ten" opponent in recent years watched the Eagles play a strictly defensive game until the second period touchdown.  Twice Indiana threatened to score before the Eagle attack broke loose.  The first time the Eagle defense stopped the Hoosiers was on the one yard line ending an 83 yard drive.

The second time Gene Goodreault broke through to spill the Hoosier ball carrier for an eight yard loss on the 23-yard line.  It was this play that set up the Eagle's 95 yard scoring drive, for it was forth down and Indiana elected to kick, trying for the sidelines.  The ball rolled out-of-bounds on the five and O'Rourke stepped back in punt formation.  However, he completely fooled the Hoosiers and ran around his own right end for 16 yards.  On the very next play he scampered around the left end for 51 yards, putting the ball on the Indiana 25-yd line.  O'Rourke then faded back slowly, saw that his men were covered, started around end and was trapped.  As he was being hit, he unleashed a long desperation pass that was caught by Al Horsfall on the 8-yard line.  Pete Cignetti then took the ball over left tackle for the score.

In the second half, two of O'Rourke's passes were muffed in the end zone and Indiana threatened to score on three occasions.  Late in the fourth period Ed Cowhig intercepted a pass and raced 37 yards for the Eagles' second touchdown.
