“FOOTBALL AT FENWAY”

FOOTBALL AT FENWAY
Doug Allard the leads the Eagles
over Boston University

November 17, 1956 ... The Eagles left the Terriers battered and blue, 13-0 at the end of B.U. Coach Buff Donnelli's worst season.  Sophomore quarterback Doug Allard demoralized his pepped-up foe with a devastating 75 yard punt return late in the second quarter.  This allowed B.C. a 13 point halftime edge.  Coupled with the determined defense of the Eagle line, the Terrier's hopes were killed.

A drive consuming six minutes and 80 yards, scored fullback Bernie Teliszewski on a one yard slant for the first Eagle touchdown.  Allard reeled off four consecutive first downs to the Terrier 30-yard line.  At that point Coach Mike Holovak sent in third string quarterback Dick Lynch with instructions to stay on the ground.  Making good use of Teliszewski, the Eagles put the first score up.  Lynch called his number on five of the last seven plays.

With a minute and 40 seconds left in the half, the Terriers punted from the B.C. 47-yard line. Allard grabbed the ball at his own 22 and was off for 75 yards.  A three yard run by sophomore Alan Miller over left guard was the payoff play following Allard's long  romp.  The Eagles didn't score again although they spent much of the final period nuzzling the B.U. goal line.
