FOOTBALL AT FENWAY
B.C. beats Boston University

November 21, 1931 ... Boston College defeated Boston University at Fenway Park in a close game that ended 18-6.  B.C.'s coach, Joe McKenney was planning on sitting many of his regulars but ended up needing them to fight the plucky Pioneers.  B.C. was held scoreless in the first period after B.U. made a brilliant stand on their six yard line.  The Eagles started moving in the second period.  Hugo Harrington started off a series of runs that gave B.C. the ball on B.U.'s 18-yard line.  On two runs Pete Chesnulevich brought the Eagles down to the 3-yard line, giving him a first down.  After two stops Chesnulevich crashed through for a touchdown.  The second touchdown followed soon after.  After a punt, B.C. took over on their own 43-yard line.  Chesnulevich carried for three and four yards.  Johnny Freitas made six more.  Chesnulevich picked up the first down throwing to Joe Ryder for 15 yards down to the 29-yard line.  Freitas and Ryder picked up nine yards and the Chesnulevich and Freitas slogged their way through the center of the line for twelve and six yards. Finally Chesnulevich took it over from the two.

Boston University started a great march from their own 29-yd line in the second half.  Paul Hootstein received the kickoff at his own 18-yd line and ran it back eleven yards.  An exchange of punts gave B.U. the ball back at their own 41-yd line.  Hart passed to Clem to give the Pioneers a first down at B.C.'s 40-yd line. Hootstein then took the ball around left end and ran down the sideline until he was pushed out-of-bounds at the 20.  Two runs and a pass from Hootstein to Clem got the ball to the five.  On the next play Hootstein slipped in over guard and went in standing up.  After the B.U. score, the Eagles came right back.  Clem kicked-off to Romanowski who brought the ball out to the B.C. 40-yard line.  On the first play for the Eagles, Hugo Harrington was thrown for a one yard loss but on second down he tried the right side of the line.. Two great blocks allowed him to cut back to the center of the field where Hootstein came closing in.  At the last moment Harrington side-stepped Hootstein and made it in easily for the score.  For the rest of the third period, B.U. continued to threaten to score but couldn't get the job done.  In the final period, B.C. played their subs and conducted a march deep into B.U. territory which was ended by penalties.
