Boston U. clicks
and muzzles Upsala, 25-0
October 15, 1938 ...
Performing effectively for the first time this season, Boston University marched to four touchdowns and an easy 25-0 victory over Upsala College at Fenway Park. Saul Nechtem and Russ Lawry sparked the Terrier offense and the defense, paced by Johnny Walker,
Roland Bernard and sophomore Jim McDonald thwarted every attempt by the visitors. Upsala's big star was Joe Grecco who probably made 75 percent of their tackles and probably responsible for B.U. not scoring 50 points.
A 31-yard run back of the opening kickoff by Nechtem got the ball rolling for Boston U. Lawry and Nechtem alternated running and Nechtem took it in for the score. In the second half B.U. pushed the ball down to Upsala's 15, but lost the ball on downs.
A gain on exchanges of punts gave B.U. the ball on their own 45-yard line. A pass from Compton to Nechtem was good for 27 yards down to Upsala's 25-yard line. Running plays by Nechtem, Lawry and Ratcliffe moved the ball in with Nechtem picking up the score on a play off right
tackle. A few plays after the kickoff, Ratcliffe intercepted a pass on Upsala's 20 and ran it in for another score. In the final quarter B.U marched down the field for their fourth touchdown, with Lawry running 33 yards to get the ball down to Upsala's 10 yd-line. Lawry
picked up the final yards for the game's final score.
