“DIARY OF A WINNER”
|
FENWAY'S FIRST TEAM After the game tomorrow Bill Carrigan and Heinie Wagner will rest until the games with the Highlanders in Boston next week. Both players will head east tomorrow night. Other players will be given some time off and manager Stahl's ideas is to get his boys in prime shape for the games at Washington and Philadelphia, tuning them up for the World Series. The Red Sox players have relaxed and find it hard to play their best ball. President MacAleer gave up his trip to Youngstown and will remain with the club until they return home a week from today. Some of the Athletics players stopped by the hotel where the Red Sox are staying and considerable time was spent with them this afternoon, letting them know about their experiences playing against the New York Giants. Ray Collins has recovered from his case of the flu and will be out for a hard practice tomorrow. The weather is delightful and the boys are well with fine appetites. Walter Johnson no longer holds sole ownership of the record for consecutive game won by a pitcher. This record he now shares with Joe Wood, who won his 16th game against St. Louis yesterday. Wood has lost only one of his last 25 games and only three of his last 35 games. |
