JOSH DEVORE |
THE 1914 "MIRACLE" BRAVES
July 2, 1914
... The game between the Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies
was called off due to the storm. It will be played when the Phillies
return to Boston in September.
President Gaffney announced that Jack Martin was traded to Philadelphia
for Josh Devore. Devore will always be remembered for the great
catch he made as a member of the Giants in the 1912 World Series with the
Red Sox, which temporarily saved the series for New York.
Gaffney also announced that he has signed several players to long term
contracts. He now has Butch Schmidt, Rabbit Maranville, Dick
Rudolph, Hank Gowdy, Paul Strand, Bill James and Larry Gilbert signed to
long term deals. |
