“DIARY OF A WINNER”

WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN

April 30, 1915 ... The game scheduled at Fenway Park was called off at 1PM on account of the wet weather, giving the Yankees a chance to catch the early train home.  Yankees manager Bill Donovan said he was pleased with the showing of his club and disappointed that they couldn't play the other two games.  The games will be made up as doubleheaders when the Yankees visit again in June.  The Red Sox appear to be a weaker team than last year, especially on the mound.  They also lack a fighting spirit and pull many bone-head plays in the field.

The Red Sox were guests of the Rockland Knights of Columbus at a minstrel show in the Opera House.  After the show the baseball players were entertained with a buffet luncheon at the K. of C. hall with dancing in the evening. President Lanin had moving pictures taken of the Red Sox at spring training and last night these movies were displayed in public for the first time and were greatly enjoyed by all who saw them.  These pictures will be shown all around New England with compliments of the Red Sox president.

May 1, 1915 ... Wet grounds and showers caused the Red Sox game with Washington to be postponed.

May 2, 1915 ... No game scheduled

May 3, 1915 ... Wet grounds caused the Red Sox game with Washington to be postponed.

Joe Wood is expected to be ready to pitch this week.  He has been not receiving any special treatment for his sore arm and it is hoped some warm sunshine will be all that is needed.  Vean Gregg is also making progress.  He is being treated by the same physician who treated Heinie Wagner's sore arm and is predicting that Gregg will also be able to join the staff when they return from their western road trip.  Ralph Comstock has been sent down to the Providence Greys.

American League President Ban Johnson was in town and met with Joe Lannin.  They toured Boston and stopped over to see the construction  of the Braves new ball park on Commonwealth Avenue.  He talked with baseball writers and was quoted as saying that no player who has jumped his American League contract to play in the Federal League, will ever be allowed to return.  There is a small army of men trying to get back to their teams, having jumped over to the new league.  He specifically mentioned former Red Sox players Hugh Bedient, Clyde Engle and Steve Yerkes who were released from the Red Sox and are trying to catch on with Federal League teams.
