The Red Sox took inched closer in taking the lead in the American league race by beating the Chicago White Sox 6 to 2. The all-around work of Red Sox hitters behind the dominant pitching of Joe Wood led to the important victory. Wood was invincible after
giving up two runs in the first inning to tie the game. The Sox went on to score four more unanswered runs to notch Joe's win. Red Faber pitched well also, but the Red Sox made their hits count when it was needed. Chicago made four errors in the game and one happened in
the fourth inning when Jack Fournier bobbled a ground ball hit by Larry Gardner, who later scored the go-ahead run ahead of Joe Wood's base hit. The Sox scored again in the seventh on another White Sox error with Wood taking two bases on Jimmy Collins' fumble in right field and
scoring on Tris Speaker's single. Joe had a great day, not only on the mound but also at the plate in in the field, as did Jack Barry, who has been sensational with the glove ever since he arrived. |
