“DIARY OF A WINNER”

ERNIE SHORE

WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
The Red Sox play great ball for a 2-1 win

August 3, 1915 ... The fourth game of this series was a clean-cut win for the Red Sox.  It also was a great pitchers' battle between Harry Coveleski and Ernie Shore.  The Tigers started off quick with three successive singles, but then Shore settled down and behind some superb work in the field, prevented the Tigers from scoring another run.  The tying run for the Red Sox was a gift by Owen Bush who made a wild throw to first on a Jack Barry routine grounder.  The winning run was scored in the seventh inning on a single by Duffy Lewis and a double by Barry, the ball getting by Sam Crawford trying to make a diving catch.  The day was dark and cloudy and eventually a light rain settled in.  However the game was so close and well played, that very few of the large crowd left their seats.
