BERT GALLIA |
WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
The Red Sox win on just one hit
August 16, 1915
...
One run scored in the first inning on a triple by Harry Hooper and a sacrifice fly by Everett Scott to score him, was the only scoring done in the game. Thereafter it was a pitcher's battle between Joe Wood and Nats' hurler Bert Gallia.
After the second inning Gallia was the better pitcher as not one Red Sox batter reached first base. He held the Sox to just two hits, Hooper's triple and a single by Larry Gardner in the second. The Statesmen dropped five hits on Joe Wood, but Joe was clutch. In the fourth
inning with a man on third, he struck out Howie Shanks and Chick Gandil. Both teams were superb in the field, with only one error committed in the game. Washington has played its last game at Fenway Park this year and not won at all. |
