“DIARY OF A WINNER”

ERNIE SHORE

WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
The Red Sox win it in the 1st inning

August 20, 1915 ... The Red Sox were on the mark right out of the box today and had the game won in the first inning.  They never stopped and when it was over, the Speed Boys had a 4 to 1 win.  Harry Hooper led off by being passed and went to second on a passed ball.  Everett Scott slapped a single and Hooper stopped at third.  Tris Speaker singled him in, and Duffy Lewis brought home Scott with another base hit.  Reb Russell came in to relieve the starter Joe Benz at this point, and was greeted by Larry Gardner, who doubled to left, scoring Speaker.

Ernie Shore did not have perfect control, yet he always came through when he needed the good pitch and an out.  The White Sox played hard and the crowd was trying to rattle and heckle the Red Sox but they stayed focused.
