BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPS
Brooklyn clinches the National League pennant

October 4, 1916 ... The Brooklyn Robins clinched the National League by defeating the New York Giants 9 to 6, while the Phillies were losing two games to the Boston Braves.  The Brooklyn victory gave them a 1 1/2 game lead at the finish.  After the game President Charles Ebbets announced his retirement from baseball whenever he finds a purchaser of the team.  Ebbets has been connected with the team for 34 years as secretary and then president.

Royal Rooter president, John Killeen, said that President Ebbets has assured that the Royal Rooters will receive an allotment of tickets for the World Series.  It was stated at Fenway Park that the first batch of World Series ticket applicants would hear from the Red Sox management tomorrow.  The first World Series games will be played at Braves Field on Saturday and Monday.  Not since the 1903 World Series with Pittsburgh, have the opening games been in Boston.

Today the Red Sox worked out at Braves Field. Jack Barry worked out at second base in a scrub game between the Regulars and the Yannigans, however it is not likely he will see much action in the Series.
