“DIARY OF A WINNER”

TED WILLIAMS

THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 2 ...
A POWERFUL RED SOX TEAM FAILS
IN THE WORLD SERIES ...

May 20, 1946 ... No game scheduled ... Manager Joe Cronin announced that Mike "Pinky" Higgins would be his third baseman when the Sox open their series in Cleveland.  The announcement came after the Sox took batting practice at Briggs Stadium today.  Along with Higgins, Bobby Doerr and George Metkovich took extended batting practice.  Mike Ryba, Bill Butland and Bob Klinger did the pitching.  The Red Sox had the field to themselves, as the Tigers went to Ann Arbor to play an exhibition game with the University of Michigan.

Some of the Sox went to the movies after practice, but Ted Williams went fishing.  He was the guest of Paul Trout, the Tigers pitcher.
