“DIARY OF A WINNER”
|
THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 2 ... May 31, 1946 ... No game scheduled ... The Red Sox petitioned the city of Boston for permission to construct two of eight light towers to provide night games at Fenway Park. They would be constructed on the back of the left field fence on property owned by the city. The Sox hope to play night games next year. Joe Cronin put himself on the inactive list since the Red Sox have to reduce their roster by June 15th. In doing so, owner Tom Yawkey tore up Cronin's current contract and agreed to a new contract which would bring Cronin's salary up from $35,000 to $50,000 per year through 1947. |
