THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 2 ...
A POWERFUL RED SOX TEAM FAILS
IN THE WORLD SERIES ...

July 8, 1946 ... No game scheduled ... The American League All Stars are a 3-1 favorite to win the All Star Game at Fenway Park tomorrow.  Bob Feller of the Cleveland Indians will start against Claude Passeau of the Chicago Cubs in the first All Star Game in two years.

Joe DiMaggio, who sprained his ankle yesterday in Philadelphia, and Pee Wee Reese, who has a chipped vertebrae in his back, will not play in the game and may be lost to the Dodgers for the season.  They join Pete Reiser (Brooklyn) and Eddie Miller (Cincinnati) as those who have withdrawn from the game.

Manager Steve O'Neill (Detroit) and Bobby Doerr decided that he is well enough to play.  The Sox have four players in the starting lineup in addition to Doerr.  They are Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams, Dom DiMaggio and Doerr.  The American Leaguers have batting practice at 11AM and the National Leaguers will have practice at noon.

At a meeting of Commission Happy Chandler with American League President, William Harridge and National League President Ford Frick, it was announced that professional football will be allowed to keep being played at major league ballparks during the season, but the home team would be responsible for maintaining the condition of the field for baseball games.  It was also announced that Major League Baseball would make a financial contribution to college baseball programs, American Legion, and sandlot.
