“DIARY OF A WINNER”

DOM DiMAGGIO, BOBBY DOERR & JOHNNY PESKY (2004)

THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 2 ...
A POWERFUL RED SOX TEAM FAILS IN THE WORLD SERIES ...

August 5, 1946 ... No game scheduled ... Ted Williams went to bed early and expects to be back in the lineup tomorrow.  The Sox released catcher Frankie Pytlak who has been trying to make a comeback this year, but has been suffering with a sore shoulder.

Baseball owners and players reached a mutual agreement on the principles discussed at their meetings in Chicago.  Spokesman Larry MacPhail, president of the New York Yankees, called the owners to the discussions as very favorable.  A request for a $5500 minimum wage, a recommendation for a $5/day expense allowance during spring training are among the items agreed upon.
