BOSTON RED SOX ...
THE
CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 3
A
SUBWAY SERIES DISAPPEARS ...
June 9, 1948 ... Hundreds
of Red Sox fans were disappointed when today's scheduled game was
called off at noon time. Converging upon Fenway Park in hordes, until
game time at 2 o'clock, the faithful baseball fans moved their way to
the ticket windows, before being convinced that the "No Game" sign
hung outside the park, meant just that.
Low temperatures and wet grounds added up the official postponement. It is
true the Red Sox had played on days worse than this. The possibility of the
doubleheader tomorrow was discarded until one of the Indians' visits later this
season.
The ballplayers worked out at the ballpark in spite of the inclement weather
and the entire Red Sox club had lengthy meeting with manager Joe McCarthy after
the workout. |
