Scranton Pitcher defeats the Sox

22 year old kid from Bedford Valley, PA beat the Red Sox tonight.
Mel Nee, a fast ball side-armer was ticketed for the Pensacola Club
of the Class C Florida League, even before he took the mound for the
exhibition game.
The youngster downed the Sox on seven hits, walked two and fanned
three. He retired Ted Williams three straight times.
Scranton won the game 2 to 1 and won it when Nee singled in a run
with one out in the ninth inning.
Before the game Sam Mele won $100 for a long drive batting
competition, sending a homer over the 350 foot left field wall. The
Sox left after the game for Cleveland. |
