BOSTON RED SOX ...
THE
CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 3
A
SUBWAY SERIES DISAPPEARS ...
August 17, 1948 ... Rain
descended on Fenway Park around 9PM, and washed out the series opener
with the Athletics. The A's had scored two runs against Mel
Parnell in the second inning. But in the next inning, with Jake
Jones at bat, sheets of large and cold rain, began to fall.
It rained for almost an hour with no sign of a let up.
There were two runners on base with nobody out, when Umpire Ed Hurley
announced the rain-out.
Billy Goodman had his first meal in a couple of days and was still
weak and tired. |
