BOBBY DOERR

BOSTON RED SOX ...
THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 3
A
SUBWAY SERIES DISAPPEARS ...

September 13, 1948 ... No game scheduled ... Bobby Doerr is making the road trip to Chicago with the club. If he makes progress he may be able to serve as a pinch hitter once again.  The Sox have recalled pitcher John McCall from the Louisville club, and brought up outfielder Tom Wright.  Both players will join the club in Chicago.

The St. Louis Browns beat the Cleveland Indians by a 3 to 2 score. Joe Schultz's walk-off ninth inning single after two Indians' errors filled the bases, provided the Browns with the game winner.  The Browns had tied up the game in the eighth inning and battered four Indian pitcher over the final two innings. The defeat ended Cleveland's winning streak at seven straight and pushed them three games behind the Red Sox and one behind the Yankees.
