“DIARY OF A WINNER”

THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 6 ...
"THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM"

July 20, 1967 ... The Red Sox were rained out in the third inning, leading 2 to 0, on a home run by Reggie Smith and a run by Carl Yastrzemski who hit a double. In the third inning, after Yaz had doubled off Orioles starter, Jim Hardin, Tony Conigliaro topped one back to the mound. Hardin got to the ball,. a little off balance, and as he got to it, it deflected through his legs toward second base. Moments later Conigliaro would score on a sacrifice fly by George Scott, before the rains settled in. 62 minutes later the game was called off.
