“DIARY OF A WINNER”

THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 6 ...
"THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM"

July 24, 1967 ... No game scheduled ... Hundreds of Red Sox fans jammed Logan Airport to welcome home the team. Travelers rushed to make flights they couldn't make on time. State police were summoned in from surrounding barracks to help control the crowd.

It was the biggest reception given to the Red Sox since 1949, the year they lost the pennant for the Yankees in the final game of the season. The original plans at the airport had to be changed, as there were so many fans that drifted into the terminal, that the players playing had to be sent to another terminal and bussed to their destination.
