“DIARY OF A WINNER”

BOBBY DOERR

THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 6 ...
"THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM"

September 14, 1967 ... No game scheduled ... The Red Sox had a 42-39 record in the first half of the season and have a 42-24 record in the second half. Dick Williams, Eddie Popowski and Bobby Doerr met with the Sox five minor league managers and several scouts to discuss minor league prospects.

Tony Conigliaro's vision has nor improved and will not play again in 1967. Lee Stange has the possibility of strained ligaments in his pitching arm. Jerry Adair pulled up lame while running to first.

The Detroit Tigers won the honors of hosting a possible playoff in the tight American League pennant race.  It means that if the Tigers wind in a tie with any of the other pennant contenders, they would have the advantage of playing 2 of 3 games in Detroit. The Twins won second choice and the White Sox won third.

If the American League ends up in a four way tie, the Red Sox would play the Twins and the White Sox would play the Tigers in a best of three series.  The winners would meet in a final best of three series.
