THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 6 ... October 2, 1967 ... No game scheduled ... The St. Louis Cardinals arrived in Boston on a chartered flight that arrived at Logan Airport at 9:30 PM. About 75 fans were on hand as the Cardinals mounted MBTA buses and were taken to the Sheraton Motor Lodge at Neponset Circle. At Fenway Park, players arrived to pick up their mail and get World Series tickets. Dick Williams gathered his coaches to go over scouting reports made up by Tommy Thomas, Frank Malzone, Don Lenhardt and Eddie Kasko. Williams will meet with Cardinals manager, Red Schoendinst and Commissioner, William Eckert at the Ritz Carlton. The Sox want to replace Sparky Lyle with Ken Brett. The only Red Sox player to work out was Jose Santiago, who will start the opening game. Jose worked out on the mound and then went to the outfield to shag fly balls. Fenway Park underwent repairs to the damage done by the mob after yesterday's game and World Series bunting was installed. |
