THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
The Sox lose to the Tribe
in the 10th inning
September 9,
1975 ...
Highlighted by the five-hit pitching of Rick Waits, the
Indians snuck by the Sox 3 to 2 in 10 innings. After the first 3 2/3
innings, Waits just gave up one walk, retiring the last 13 batters he
faced.
The Sox scored both their runs in the fourth inning to grab a 2-0
lead. A single by Fred Lynn, a walk to Carlton Fisk, and a double
down the first base line by Dwight Evans scored both runners.
The Indians came back to tie the game, scoring single runs in the
fifth and sixth innings. Bill Lee gave up only five hits and went all
the way for the Sox, losing his fourth attempt to win his 18th game.
George Hendrick began the 10th inning by picking a pitch down and
away and lining a double down the right field line. Lee struck out
Charlie Spikes before walking Buddy Bell to pitch to Alan Ashby (.217
BA). On a 2-2 pitch, Lee got the ground ball he wanted, only it went
through the hole, into left field, to end the game. |
