25 GUYS, 25 CABS ...
Jim Rice's two homers help the Sox
win the game in the 10th inning

August 30, 1980 ... Jim Rice led off the 10th inning with his second home run of the game to rally the Red Sox to their sixth straight win, a 7 to 6 decision over the Oakland A's. Rice drilled a 1-0 pitch off Bob Lacey into the center field seats to give Bill Campbell his fourth win.

Carl Yastrzemski's 5th inning home run had tied the game at 1-1, but the A's went ahead with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Rick Burleson's homer in the bottom of the inning made the score 3-2. Three runs in the 8th inning put Oakland up 6 to 2.

The Sox then scored four runs in the 9th inning to tie the game, 6 to 6. Rice led off the inning with his first homer of the game, 17th home run of the year, off Matt Keough. Yaz then singled to center and went to second on a wild pitch.

Tony Perez's single then advanced Yaz to third. Dave Beard came in for Oakland and walked Carlton Fisk to load the bases. That brought in Lacey, who got Dwight Evans on a sacrifice fly that scored Yaz. Glenn Hoffman lined a triple into the center field triangle and the game was tied.

Bill Campbell kept the A's from scoring in the 10th inning and gained his fourth win, when Rice unloaded with his walk-off blast to lead-off the bottom of the inning.
