“DIARY OF A WINNER”

THE CURSE OF
THE BAMBINO, PART 9 July 31, 1986 ... No game scheduled ... Glenn Hoffman's rehabilitation work at New Britain has gone well enough for the Red Sox to elevate him to the big league roster, although he will be on the disabled list. Hoffman has played some games at New Britain, but is not completely recovered from blurred vision caused by a cardiac problem. Dennis (Oil Can) Boyd, whose tempestuous trials and tribulations in July included a hospital stay, drug tests and late-night arrests, will be removed from the suspended list and reactivated. The club also said the 26-year-old right-hander will be paid his back salary effective from July 14th. To accommodate Boyd, the Sox sent right-handed starter Jeff Sellers (3-5, 4.26) to Pawtucket until the Sox can expand their roster to 40 players on Sept. 1st. |
