“DIARY OF A WINNER”

THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 9
"IT AIN'T OVER 'TIL IT'S OVER"...

September 24, 1986 ... Game postponed due to rain ... The Red Sox held a share meeting. Twenty-one full shares were voted and as well as numerous partial shares. The contributions of the missing persons were translated into dollars and cents.

Using June 1st as a cutoff date, up to 21 players, including Glenn Hoffman and Wes Gardner, would be eligible for full shares. Players who came after that date, including Tom Seaver, Spike Owen and Henderson, would likely be given prorated shares.

Tonight's rain gave Wade Boggs a day away from the batting race with Don Mattingly of the Yankees. This year's race is the closest in the three seasons in which Boggs has been in title contention.

Left fielder Jim Rice, who was hit in the head by a pitch from Milwaukee's Tim Leary Tuesday night, said he had no dizziness or other effects from incident. Rice said the ball hit him in the helmet and his head. The force of the blow knocked him flat on his back and the ball bounced back to the mound where Leary caught it on the fly.
