“DIARY OF A WINNER”

NOMAR GARCIAPARRA

THE "IDIOTS" REVERSE THE CURSE

April 5, 2004 ... No game scheduled ... Manager Terry Francona said he heard that Nomar Garciaparra (right Achilles' tendonitis), Trot Nixon (mildly herniated disk), and Byung Hyun Kim (right shoulder strain) were making progress in their stints on the DL.  Kim, who had returned to Boston to help a sister move in, will throw twice in the bullpen this week in Fort Myers, Fla., before the Sox decide how to proceed with his rehab. Francona said the Sox are committed to Kim returning as a starter.

Several players worked out today, including Pedro Martinez, who tossed short and long for about 10 minutes with trainer Chris Correnti.  Derek Lowe, Keith Foulke, Alan Embree, Varitek, Doug Mirabelli, and Gabe Kapler were among the others at the voluntary workout.
