BOSTON STRONG - June 3, 2013 ... No game scheduled. Boston police are investigating an apparent suicide Monday aboard the yacht owned by Red Sox owner John Henry. Police spokeswoman Cheryl Fiandaca said emergency personnel were summoned at noon to the 164-foot luxury vessel "Iroquois" for a male in cardiac arrest. Efforts were made to revive the man, who has not been identified, but he was later pronounced dead, Fiandaca said. The yacht, docked at the time at Rowes Wharf, has five cabins (and a Jacuzzi.) The Red Sox issued a statement saying the man, who's between 28 and 30 years old, was a crew member. Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman was a red carpet guest at the Pitching in for Kids Celebrity Poker Party & Kick-Off Celebration, which was held at the Revere Hotel Monday night. He was joined by current and former Red Sox guys including John Lackey, Clay Buchholz, Tim Wakefield, and Jason Varitek. The night of poker raised money for programs for local kids. Former Red Sox player Nomar Garciaparra can still draw a local crowd. He was surrounded by fans when he visited Faneuil Hall's Mija Cantina & Tequila Bar for a summer kickoff party. (The former shortstop-turned- ESPN personality is apparently promoting Miller 64 these days). David Ortiz is first in voting for the designated hitter position for the American League in the All-Star Game. Ortiz has 1,045,283 votes so far. Lance Berkman of the Rangers is second with 672,547. Red Sox relievers have a 5.53 ERA at Fenway Park and a 2.30 ERA on the road. They allowed one earned run over 102/3 innings on the recent road trip. |
