DAVIS ORTIZ AT 1ST BASE

THE ROAD TO REDEMPTION

David Ortiz to play first base

October 25,
2013 ... No game scheduled ... David Ortiz will start at first base with Mike Napoli on the bench for the start of Game 3. The lack of a DH in the National League park will change the look of the Red Sox.  Ortiz played six games at first base during the regular season in interleague games. His last postseason game at first base was Game 4 of the 2007 World Series in Colorado.  The Red Sox had Mike Napoli taking ground balls at third base.  He played three games at the position in the minors, the last in 2004 for Single A Rancho Cucamonga.

John Farrell was disappointed that Napoli was not one of the three finalists for the Gold Glove at first base in the American League. Chris Davis (Orioles), Eric Hosmer (Royals), and James Loney (Rays) were the choices.

The Red Sox said again that righthander Clay Buchholz, who is dealing with a sore right shoulder, will start Game 4 of the World Series on Sunday.  Buchholz threw in the outfield at Busch Stadium and is scheduled to throw his usual short bullpen session on Saturday.  Manager John Farrell and head athletic trainer Rick Jameyson kept a close eye on Buchholz as he threw.

REO Speedwagon guitarist Dave Amato, a Massachusetts native, watched the Red Sox take batting practice at Busch Stadium.   Several of the Red Sox players caught the Canucks-Blues hockey game at the nearby Scottrade Center after the workout.
