BOSTON STRONG -
THE ROAD TO REDEMPTION

Pedroia & Victorino win
Gold Gloves for 2013

October 29,
2013 ... No game scheduled ... There will be a deployment of thousands of police officers across the city tomorrow afternoon, when Obama arrives at Faneuil Hall to defend his health care overhaul.  By the time Obama leaves for a fund-raising event in Weston, police officers will have to take their places around Fenway, Kenmore Square, and other parts of the city known to attract sports fans as the Red Sox take on the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6. If the Red Sox win, police would have to contend with masses of celebrants who would flood the streets. Mayor Thomas M. Menino met Tuesday afternoon with his Cabinet heads to put the final touches on a public safety plan that will include the closures of dozens of city streets, where cars will be forbidden from parking after 4 p.m. All garages around Fenway and Kenmore Square are under instructions to not allow anyone to exit after the seventh inning. Drivers will not be able to move their cars until police have deemed that the streets are cleared of celebrating fans.

SHANE VICTORINO

Shane Victorino and Dustin Pedroia received Gold Gloves today.  It is the third Gold Glove for Pedroia, the others coming in 2008 and 2011. Since the award's inception in 1957, Pedroia is the sixth player to win at least three with the Red Sox, the first since outfielder Dwight Evans, who won eight. It was the fourth Gold Glove for Victorino, the first three coming as a center fielder for the Phillies. Victorino led the American League with 24 defensive runs saved in right field. He also had nine assists.

Box seats for Game 6 were selling for $10,000 on the secondary market. Even bleacher seats were fetching more than $1,000. TiqIQ.com, which tracks prices, listed the average ticket going for close to $2,200.

Owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner, president Larry Lucchino, and chief operating officer Sam Kennedy were on the field to watch the team's workout.  Red Sox owner John Henry hosted a pregame gathering for friends and assorted VIPs,  such as Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz, promoter Don Law, Citi Wang boss Joe Spaulding, and actor Mike O'Malley.  Also in the crowd was Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. Aerosmith screamer Steven Tyler, ensconced in the EMC Club with two of his children, country singers Eric Church and Kenny Chesney, Secretary of State John Kerry, actor John Travolta, as well as comedians Dane Cook and Lenny Clarke, restaurateurs Patrick Lyons, Steve DeFillippo, and Ed Kane, and chef Ming Tsai.
