It was very difficult to win games for the 1964 Boston Red
Sox. Not a single starting pitcher on the team had a
winning record.
Bob Heffner was then summoned to join the Red Sox in
Boston to bolster a depleted pitching staff that was down
to just eight men. Ike Delock had been released, and Gene
Conley was on the DL. They sold Mike Fornieles’ contract
to Minneapolis. And manager Johnny Pesky knew Heffner from
Seattle in 1961 ...
