Bob McChesney was born in Los Angeles on July 12, 1912, and attended Benjamin Franklin High School. He went on to play football for UCLA and played in five bowl games.

He played professional football as an end for the Boston Redskins in 1936 and moved with the team to Washington, and played with them until 1942. With the Boston Redskins, he caught five passes for 62 yards. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1938 and 1942.

Bob McChesney passed away in Denton, Texas, on September 20, 1986, at age 74.
