Del Baker took a coaching post with the Boston Red Sox, remaining there from
1945 thru 1948. From 1949 through ’51, Baker was back in his old Pacific Coast
League stamping grounds, managing Sacramento for a season and then San Diego for
two. His ’51 Padres finished well out of the money, and he scouted for the
Indians in 1952. But in 1953, he returned to the job for which he was probably
born: coaching the bases and reading the pitchers and catchers, once more with
the Boston Red Sox ...
