Gene Rye started off well for the 1931 Red Sox, hitting both a home run and a triple in the first practice game. Unfortunately, a couple of days later he broke two bones in his wrist. He pinch-hit once on April 22nd, but not again until May 2nd. He got into the game late on May 3rd and had another at-bat. He played in his final game, on June 6th.The wrist had not fully repaired itself, and he was batting only .179 ...
