Jimmy McAleer’s longtime friend and hunting companion, Ban Johnson, arranged a deal in which McAleer and Robert McRoy, Johnson’s personal secretary, bought 50 percent of the Boston Red Sox. The deal was consummated in September 1911, and McAleer took over as president of the club.
